Introduction to the history of Slavic languages from the beginnings to the present time, including sound changes, morphology, vocabulary and the development of writing systems. Prerequisite: LING 200.

This course addresses how people talk to each other in different languages, to what extent the language we speak determines who we are, and the relationship between language and thought, culture, and national identity. We will discuss moral concepts, friendship, and love, homeland, freedom, politeness, rudeness, and gender. No prerequisites.
